Collector of fine German toy steam and hot air engines in addition to a few full-sized hot air (stirling) engines. Always looking for other interesting engines so feel free to contact me if you have something to sell, swap, etc.
Amazing 150-year-old Survivor
Based on a silver coin which was used to make part of the eccentric, this model steam engine was probably built around the mid-1860s-1870s after the Civil War. Nothing is yet known about the maker (signed "H. Heuer") but his craftsmanship is evident. What's amazing is that it ran with minimal servicing after all these years and that the paintwork is still in good condition. The boiler, engine, and much of the base are made of heavy gauge nickel-plated brass. The spring-loaded safety valve (atop the steam dome) still functions even though it cannot be serviced. The flat-bottomed boiler steams quickly; there is also a small tank underneath the boiler to collect exhaust condensate.

1868 Henry Moore tri-column steam engine
Переглядів 61028 днів тому
This is a working engine rather than a model and was made by Henry Moore in Charlestown (now part of Boston), Massachusetts. I know nothing about Moore other than his steam engine received some recognition from the annual Mass Charitable Mechanic Assn. Exhibitions at the time. Any additional information about Moore or this engine would be greatly appreciated. I've seen 4 and 6 column engines bu...
What the heck--screaming steam turbine? meter?
Переглядів 433Місяць тому
Can anyone identify this? It's obviously a meter of some sort, perhaps measuring air or steam volume? I have no idea. Running on air in the video clip. The base is tapered to fit into whatever it was measuring.
Insane Stirling Engine (almost) Flying Machine
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Місяць тому
No, it doesn't fly, but is a credit to the mechanical genius of Richard B. Harrigill who dreamed it and made it in 2000. Note the multiple movements and mechanisms: the pilot turns his head and steering wheel to pivot the rudder and cause the machine to change directions. He pulls back on the steering column to move the elevator and cause the craft to pull up and vice versa. Powered by a small ...
The British Kyko Hot Air Engine
Переглядів 8492 місяці тому
This little stirling engine utility motor was made in London, England in the 1920s by The Model Engineering Co. Ltd. The company was better known for their Kyko portable hot air engine fans which sold in Asia and the middle east where they were used into the 1940s. Their utility motors used the same engine but a different base and substituted a flywheel for the fan blades.

French impulse motor with water pump, Radiguet?
Переглядів 1,1 тис.7 місяців тому
This little motor is what I would call a scientific toy, made in France and probably from the late 1800s. Can anyone identify it and/or provide a catalog image? It requires significant current to operate the water pump and is shown here running with a 6 volt, 5 amp battery. Without the pump connected it runs at very high speed, nearly out of control.
Paillard Hot Air Engine Phonograph or Gramophone
Переглядів 2,5 тис.7 місяців тому
This phonograph is powered by a small Stirling or hot air engine and was manufactured by the Swiss company Paillard around 1912. Sold under Paillard's Maestrophone brand, this example was the fireproof Model 207 with an all-steel cabinet. All other hot air engine-powered models had wooden cabinets.
Alternative Energy--Power from a Kerosene Lamp!

The 3M Corporation of Minnesota, for some strange reason, made this little thermoelectric generator in the early 1960s. This was during the height of the cold war and was intended to power your transistor radio in your fallout shelter in the event of nuclear war. Apparently they were not a great success and only less than a handful survive. The heating of two dissimilar metallic alloys in this ...
Early Marklin toy hot air engines
Переглядів 1 тис.8 місяців тому
These three toys were all made before 1914. The water pump is an improved version with cooling fins and a more efficient beta type engine. The fan is geared just like its larger Jost fan counterparts and the twin has two power pistons and a single displacer. I have never found the model numbers for the fan or water pump. Anyone?
Early Marklin "Engine House" or Machine Hall, 1904-09
Переглядів 5559 місяців тому
This survivor is nearly 120 years old now and was with the same family since new. It was, however, enjoyed by at least two generations and is well play worn. The engine itself is a true compound, but the advantages of compounding are questionable in such a toy. Now running again on steam, slowly but surely.
Robinson B4 hot air engine
Переглядів 2,3 тис.9 місяців тому
Note: this is the B4 model rather than A4 as on the video title page. The Robinson engine was a unique late 19th - early 20th century compact stirling engine with displacer and power cylinders placed 90 degrees apart and crankshaft driven by a counterbalanced crank disk. The large diameter displacer was filled with wire wool which also acted as a regnerator or heat exchanger for better fuel eco...
First run: Aster's Atlantic "grasshopper" locomotive

These little Gauge 1 locos were made by Aster of Japan for a short while in the mid-1990s. The way it scoots around the track can't help but make you smile. The prototype "Atlantic" was built in the Baltimore & Ohio RR shops in Baltimore in 1832.

Truly amazing. Must be only one known to exist.
We have this fan in our house it's almost 43 years old but it works well❤

WOW!!!!! That is a nice plant....
Awesome. A centenarian and a half. 🤠
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful engine ! … and … well that’s really old !
Work of art, beautiful engine.
dope
Very nice. What a great Chuff!
Красивая вещь и полезная.
Wow❤
I think this is fantastic. I would say that the engineer had an incredible skill to imagine the design and build it. The attention to detail with the various movements is amazing. Magnificent! I think the music is great too. Thankyou for showing it for everyone to see : )
You're welcome and thanks for your comments. And he wasn't even an engineer!

Many thanks zinckensteel!--that link led to the answer--it's an early siren invented by Cagniard de la Tour in the early 1800s. Used to determine frequencies of sound by associating specific tones with revolutions per second of the rotating disc. In this way sound frequencies could be determined for the first time. De la Tour is credited with inventing (and naming) the siren.
It correlates audio tone frequency to RPM. Why this was needed, I dunno, it may have just been for teaching purposes.
This is genius. The wing action is wonderful.
ShOcK & AWE COoL. Madmax would have literally killed for that...
Se oye mucho la música y muy poco el sonido de la máquina. Buen trabajo eres un gran ingeniero, saludos.
Thank you but I can take no credit for this. It was made by someone else.
@@riderericsson Oooooh🤔😢
Yeah! What he said.
A truly one of a kind machine! 😀🤣😊😎
Its a vertical Beta Stirling with the crankshaft on top. This is one of the nicer ones that I've seen.
Magnificent indeed!
Congratulations for owening this wonderful example of a upperclass toy 😄
Parabéns pela máquina, gostei tbm da lamparina, super like merecido Abraços
Eco friendly
Interesting linkage on the displacer.
Nice engine!
Esto es ARTE, saludos.
Love it!
Neat engine. Is the burner original?
Thanks. No, just a little alcohol burner I had lying around. Not sure what the original burners looked like for these; the Kyko fan (kerosene) burners are much too large.
What an amazing piece … there needs to be some serious work to use clockwork energy in providing sustainable energy or energy storage
Whoa! After watching this video I need to sit down for a minute. What a rush!
Please..tell me its mechanism and procedure to make it
Hy can u show me its full mechanism..please ...i want to make this
A wonderful engine. Thanks for sharing, Brent.
Wonderful!
Una maravilla de ingeniería, saludos amigo.
Gracias!
Thank you Brent for posting that wonderful engine ! A true gem , in super great original condition, and nicely detailed as you said … Nothing any better !
Thanks Oliv. First time I've seen this model.
@@riderericsson I believe you ! 😊
That's a beauty, with a manual boiler feed pump, and a steam regulator to slow it right down! I had a Marklin vertical, and sold it because it didn't have a regulator fitted and I very dislike a steam engine running ridiculously and unrealistically fast.
I just purchased a odd little Ernest Plank that I dated to 1896.Had a broken flywheel that was repaired but I'm afraid to fire it fearing I may loose it
Always amazing to see what you have, stunning collection !!!!
Sir, is this for sale? I want to buy it please 😊❤
Sorry it's not for sale.
@@riderericsson Well, I hope you have a wonderful day 🥺
Superb engine and warter pump.
It took me a few moments to realise those weird blobfish things were the dolphins.
mythical "dolphins"
@@riderericsson I'm guessing it took a few generations of artists who had never seen a dolphin to come up with those. Kinda like a high class game of telephone.
@@peterhoulihan9766 You see these sorts of mythical "dolphins" on ancient maps. I don't think they were intended to represent the real thing.
It‘s always a treat travelling through time with your engines … Thank you! 👍
W hat a great Lookingengine Engine And a Mini to top it off, Thankyou for sharing in the fun.
This is really an antique treasure! Congratulations!!! 👍👍👍
